Monday,
October 7th, 2024

We implore all faithful Catholics in the state of Colorado (those across the nation and around the world, as well!) to recite the rosary on October 7th in reparation for sins against the sanctity of life, for the conversion of sinners and for the salvation of souls in order to foster an environment whose defining values are Truth, Beauty and Goodness. This effort is essential amidst our country’s current atmosphere of political divisiveness, lack of clarity, and impending presidential election.

Toward this end, let us commit to addressing the challenges facing both our state and our country during this election year via this day of prayer, to include both the holy rosary and, if desired, the Liturgy of the Hours. In this way, we choose to make a dedicated effort towards addressing the ongoing struggles facing Colorado and beyond.

Let us pray for peace in the world, as requested by Our Lady of the Rosary. Let us pray for the salvation, conversion, and sanctification of our leaders and all those with whom they interact. Let us ask Our Lady to intercede for the needs of the state of Colorado, our country, its citizens, and all people impacted by the civic health and actions of the United States of America.

A Story of Victory

The Battle of Lepanto, fought on October 7, 1571, marked an important moment for the survival of Christianity. The Ottoman Empire was taking over Christian Europe, putting Christendom as we know it at risk. With only a small band of soldiers, Pope Pius V knew they needed divine intervention and asked churches all over the world to open their doors and for the people to pray the Rosary unceasingly, asking for the help of Our Lady. The faithful answered the call, and their prayers were met with a miraculous victory that changed the course of history. This triumph is credited to Our Lady of the Rosary, and the day of the battle became her feast day.

Today, we are fighting our own battle of Lepanto—against societal divisions, moral decay, and threats to our faith. Just as the Rosary was a powerful weapon then, it remains a tool for peace and divine intervention today. On this feast day, let's come together in prayer, asking for Our Lady's intercession to guide us and protect our nation as we face the evils of our time.

"If you desire peace in your hearts, in your homes, and in your country, recite the Rosary."

- Pope Pius XI
